Roll of Honour
Award Guidlines
The overriding principal: The WCC awards and prizes belong to the members of WCC and are administered by the standing committee on behalf of the members. It is in this spirit that the following guidlines are presented.
1. Awards should only be given to members of WCC/W.Sports Club, having paid an appropriate membership fee in full on or before the last day of the cricket season.
2. Awards should only be considered for members who have an exemplary disciplinary record during the past season
3. Nominations should be received by the committee in writing with a citation briefly explaining why the prize should be given.
4. Nominations for awarda should be received and considered by the standing committee of WCC at the meeting held immediately before the annual dinner. Normally this would be the meeting held in October. All committee members including playing Captains should aim to attend this meeting or send a representative.
5. The committee will normally expect to ratify all nominations for the award of the prize or trophy. The committee reserves the right to ask for an alternative nomination. In the event of two nominations being received for any one award, the committee wil put a decision to the vote, the casting vote being held by the Chairman in the event of a tie.
6. Awards will be held for a period of no more than 364 days from the date of the annual dinner. Awards to be returned to the following annual dinner at 7pm at the latest or to the secretary of WCC committee if the current holder will not be present at the dinner
7. It is suggested that the Chairman takes overall responsibility for ensuring that the awards nominations proceedures are undertaken in good time before the annual dinner.

The Reg Thacher Award
Really the award should be named after a Mr Reg Statue'.
For 'twas in the days of yore, when shrewd judges thought it time to send Carthorse out to grass(or was it to stud)and there were people still alive who could remember Ant Allen looking like a cricketer, that a man, suited in correct attire, arrived accompanied by his trusty bicycle at the old ground.
He said he was thinking on joining the club and were we looking for new players? When are we not!!!
Of course the anser was yes-have we ever been known to turn anyone away?
Surely not when we think of some of our ultra sensible types, Norman Whiteside and who can ever forget his beloved sidekick, Luke Skywalker of 'I'll see you at the end of the pier' fame.
The then match secretary took down the extensive details from the mysterious cyclist and told him the selection committee would no doubt be in touch before long. The information was duly passed over to the committee who wrote down the name of a Mr Reg Statue and discussed whether they dare give him a game in the 3rd X1 that weekend. It was decided that as Houghie was yet again venturing into Southampton in search of who knows what,Sticky dellow was suffering with flu and George Hayward away for the weekend Yachting with Robert Maxwell, numbers were a little on the short side and it might be just the time to blood the new recruit. Unfortunately the 'extensive' details taken down earlier were lacking any address or telephone number and therefore the 1st Eleven Captain went off to consult the telephone directory. After a while, and after much running of hands through those luxuriant locks which once topped that confused head, still no entry for the name of 'Statue' could be found.
Not surprising reallly-the cyclists name was actually reg thatcher. dennis's long lost drinking partner from the days before he met Nargaret and she straightened him out. It was obvious to all that a Trophy should then be named after this gentleman. Why was it so obvious? The reasons have faded to grey more quickly than my hair and I can no longer offer a logical reason but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Suffice to say the idea for the trophy had been born. It was decided to present the award anually to the person who was responsible for the most bizarre event of the season. Not surprisingly the name of Nigel Simcox featured regularly in the shortlist as has one of Warwicks more sensible names,Geoff Clarke,he who will be forever remembered for fending off his manic teamate Straw Hough in the middle of one of his more lively overs.
On one night, video footage revealed many aspects of the Warwick Psyche some of which had never been seen before in public and never will again! Most notably, Phil Linnet's backside and probably the greates shock came when Ken Simcox and Rocky sarson came out from under the bedclothes; a very courageous act or was it Peter Tatchell under those covers as well?
Whirling dirvishes try to commit hari-kari on Hampton Roads sacred stumps and secret philatelic transactions between an anonymous 2nd X1 Captain and a landscape gardener have all been part of the rich harvest of early years starnge incidents which the club have produced. Some would say ony our Club but every club in the country can lay claim to that!
probably the starngest episode was when a player weighing in at over 16 stone went out to field in trousers designed more for the youth section and certainly for someone of more slender girth. Needless to say that on chasing the ball to the boundary the trousers slowly began to part company with their owner. By the time he approached the boundary,he was finding it very difficult to run with what was left of the trousers which were now in tatters around his ankles.
Everyone on the field was behaving as if it were a Norman Wisdom imperonation with the notable exception of the bowler, who for some starnge reason could not see the funny side of things as the batsmen continued to exchange ends for a well run seven'
As far as I know it is a unique trophy among clubs around the country and not surprising for a club such a Warwick.
Where do we get them from?
Jack Oliver 1995(handbook)wrote this and since then we have had many contenders for this trophy.
