Kineton Under 11 V Warwick

The lovely evening on Monday saw the U11s visit Kineton for a League match. I haven’t been to Kineton for a few years but the ground looks great, or maybe it was the drinks & cakes laid on by our hosts. The game was in doubt until Sunday morning due to Kineton having 6 boys away on the same school trip, but they were still able to turn out a decent side, while we turned out possibly our youngest side this season.

Another good bowling performance, saw Jack Bewick & Matthew Warren take wickets and an excellent catch behind the stumps from Rory Elliston. Good bowling also from Charlie Bewick – only conceding 1 run. Luke & Callum Webb and Andrew Dellow were unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Kineton’s innings closing on 269 after some excellent textbook drives from Kineton captain Harry.

Big Hitting from Charlie & Jack Bewick made for an exciting run chase, but ultimately our young side weren’t able to maintain the momentum up and we ended up short on 239.

Warwick 2nd XI also tasted defeat on saturday as they lost to Lyndworth by 110runs. Lyndworth batted first and their hard hitting style paid dividends as they racked up 260-8dec in 41overs. A.Khan topscored with 70, I.Khan 50 and Nisar 40 and there were 5wickets for Warwick's Gary Hammersley.

Matt Hodgkin 59 and Dave Renton 36 were Warwicks major contributors with the bat as they were dismissed for just 150 in the 47th over. Asfar claimed 4 wickets for Lyndworth.

In a game hit by the bank holiday weekend 10man Warwick 3rd XI defeated 9man Small Heath Baptist Church at Civil Service Sports Ground on Saturday. Batting first the Baptists lost Ratton lbw to his first delivery from Anoop Babu which brought Ken Hazel the crease. Hazel shared a partnership of 40 for the 2nd wicket with Ash Kumar 15, and then 45 with Raj Sudat 22 for the 3rd on his way to 58. With the score on 115-4 in the 28th over Baptists looked set for a big score, but the last four wickets fell for just 12 runs as they were dismissed for 127 in the 40th over. Graham Griffiths, Tom Austin and Anoop Babu claimed two wickets each, and one each for Jagdeep Khurana and Jorjeet Singh.

Ram Ratton made up for his earlier first baller by removing 4 of the top 5 Warwick batsmen reducing them to 26 for 5 in the 8th over, the Baptists were firmly in control. James Matthews 16 and Jorjeet Singh shared a stand of 63 for the 6th wicket to put the game in the balance. Singh was the 7th wicket to fall for 56 with the score on 116, he'd done most of the work to rescue Warwick. Graham Griffiths and Tom Austin scored the last 12 runs in 7 overs as Warwick ran out winners with just 2 wickets to spare.

Mon 1st XI

Warwick put the disappointment of Saturday’s defeat behind them with a comfortable 6 wicket victory over Highway on Monday.

Batting first Highway made a solid start thanks to a determined 56 from Stuart Bevins who helped the visitors to 108-3 from 40 overs. Thornton (31*) & Butler (18*) then increased the tempo with some enterprising strokeplay as the innings closed on 163-5. Paul Jackson claimed 3-91 in another mammoth 25 over spell and Jack Parish took 1-37.

Warwick’s openers Steve Smith (24) & James Wynn-Evans gave Warwick a great start with a partnership of 70. Once both were dismissed Tim Briscoe & Ross Briscoe (24) took control as they added 67 for the third wicket. Warwick reached their target with 4 overs to spare for the loss of just 4 wickets. Man of the match Tim Briscoe was unbeaten on 51. S.Marsh 2-26 was the the most successful Highway bowler.

Sat 2nd XI

Title chasing Lyndworth visited Warwick on Saturday and duly dispatched the hosts, recording a 110 run victory. Electing to bat, Lyndworth posted a stiff 260-8 declared from 41 overs, hitting out right from the start. Mustafa Dipp opened up with a quick fire 50 and this was followed up by big hitting from Usur Dadi with 70. But Warwick fought back, curtailing the visitors, who were reduced from 170-1 to 240-8, thanks to Gary Hammersley coming on and picking up five wickets. The other wickets were shared between Skrypchuk, Duckworth and O’Driscoll.

Warwick needed a positive start but were under the cosh from the outset as the scorecard reflected their below strength batting. Whilst Hodgkin and Robbins shared a 44 run third wicket partnership, there was precious little offered from the top six with only Matt Hodgkin (59) making a serious contribution. Some late order obduracy held up Lyndworth with Dave Renton clubbing 36, but Warwick subsided to 150ao in 47 overs.

Mon 2nd XI

A miserable Bank Holiday period was completed with a 10 wicket humbling at neighbours Kenilworth on Monday. A weakened Warwick team turned in another abject batting performance posting 119ao in their 50 overs. Only Matt Hodgkin (24) and Danny Robbins (41) gave the scorecard any semblance of credibility as Kenilworth’s slow bowlers were able to impose a stranglehold.

The meek batting was followed by a quick chase as Kenilworth knocked off the required runs in 22 overs thanks to Imover Seapro who scored 75* to go with his 5-26, thus completing a sorry weekend for Warwick who will be looking for something better in their remaining fixtures.
