All time Warwick team

We need your views on who you would pick in your All - Time best X1 Warwick CC team?
Whatever you consider makes up the right choice for the team outlining your views of the era in which you played etc and including any of the overseas players who have taken their rightful place in the team.
So lets have some suggestions and we can piece together and place the team on the website.
Eventually we may be able to put it to a vote,

At one time or another this is a discussion that takes place throughout the land at every cricket club. How may times have we debated the 'Best' England side, the 'Best' World eleven etc? There are so many names to conjure up inspiring moments.
In its own right it is no less a task at local level. It is of course a purely subjective issue and everyone of us has their own particular reason behind the selection of certain individuals that would make up a so called, 'Best' X1.
To my mind it does not have to be made up of the 'Best' players either - more a team ethic as Cricket is one of those amazing games in which man can actually move mountains if he puts his mind to it.
I have played with some excellent cricketers at Warwick CC. Some of the boys had an ability to turn into Demons when they donned their whites and others were superb in their ability to manage and get the best out of those around them. Whatever your chosen reason, mine is based on how I believe the team would knit together.
There were obviously some extremely talented players who took to the field way before my time who will doubtless be mentioned in dispatches and I have great respect for those.I once had the pleasure of having to work one Saturday and could only make the Third X1 who were playing at Leek Wotton Police HQ and being Skippered by Ken Simcox. I arrived about an hour in to the game and immediately was placed in extra cover between no less than Royski Parish, Ken and Charlie Wiseman; a combined age of approx 190 at the time and that without myself as a sprightly 26 y/o. It was a wonderful moment when Ken instructed me to bowl at the batsman who was making hay. " I need you to bowl him a yorker and that'll do for him" he explained. I did - and it did...........Bowling him neck and crop but the site of Mr Simcox running around taking plaudits from his illustrious elders was something to behold. These are what make teams, seminal moments and belief!
So with this in mind I offer my Team for discussion;

1. Tim Briscoe
2. Martin Parish
3. Mike Looch
4. Peter Wood
5. David Lord
6. Paul Simcox (Captain)
7. John Hough
8. Mark Slater
9. Werner Steyne
10.Kevin Clarke
11.Paul Jackson.

There are of course, many who would push for places in such a line up and probably deserving when at their best and I know it is easy to pick Overseas players but those chosen absolutely took the club to heart and made life long friends. Not only this, they are superb cricketers who produced!!
My choice as Captain is and has never been an issue. Paul never gave an inch to anyone and his man management was first class. Not only this, his own career which was so promising was diminished by his car accident. he would surely have ranked with some of the very best the area had to offer had it not been.
I believe this team could challenge a lot of the best our leagues had to offer. What's yours??

In contrast to the idea of the 'best' team in terms of winning matches, I wondered if there was another collection of characters that could be classed as the most 'entertaining'?!

In other words, if they played a game together the result would be irrelevant, just the non-stop chaos as they tried to keep it all together!

RB (Skipper and MC) (Mad)
Martin Parish (Vice-Captain) (Fried Bread)
Nigel Simcox (Bungalow)
Chris Bagshaw (Benny Shavings)
Ant Allen (Bruce Privet)
John Hough (Man of Straw)
Kevin White (Luke Skywalker)
Simon (Norman) Whiteside
Jeremy Paton-Williams
Mick Maurer
Colin Clark (Cap Chucker)

Any other suggestions?

Umpire? Taff, who turned up to one match wearing a t-shirt with 'Trigger' on it!
